History
Bruce Reed started his ice cream company in the 1950s when as a child, he helped his parents at their diner, Jerry’s Curb Service, in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania, a small town 27 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. It was through this encounter that Reed learned from his dad the secrets of restaurant business.
Reed opened an ice-cream store near Jerry’s in 1989. After 15 months, Reed started working under the Bruster’s name.
Bruster’s has started franchising and has branches in Alabama, Arizona, Southern California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Guyana and South Korea. Bruster’s remains in Bridgewater.
Several Bruster’s stores also serve as Nathan’s Iconic franchisees, Nathan’s hot dogs, and other menu items (known as Nathan’s) besides ice cream.
