History
The company began as a hamburger drive-through stand in California by a family of Mr. Snyder and his wife in 1948. The goal was to serve customers quickly efficiently while maintaining their convenience. Customers would order their food through a two-way speaker and wait for their order to be ready. By 1950, they had expanded to two other locations within California. They continued to operate within LA until 1970, the company expanded to other regions outside California and by 1976, they had 18 outlets in total. That same year Mr. Snyder died leaving his brother to take over the company.
Mrs. Snyder continued to help run the company in the accounts department. As the company continued to grow, they expanded into other areas of operation and the in-n-out university was created to train associates. They continued to open other stores which currently adds up to over three hundred distributed in Utah, Oregon, Texas, Nevada, California, and Nevada.

Great food isn’t the only thing setting in-n-out apart from other companies in the fast food business sector. they also have foundations that do charitable work. They help abused and neglected children as well as those battling addictions or slavery. Although they have faced some fierce competition in the industry, in-n-out has managed to stay at the top with their food remaining consistent since they began. This has mostly been attributed to the way the company has maintained family ownership and has not franchised with others. The continuance of closed ownership seems to be threatened by the lack of the third generation to run the company in the coming years. This has caused a lot of speculation with the company maintaining that it will continue the same way it has been since it was developed.
