Summary
In 2004 Jack in the Box Inc. launched JBX Grill to a number of fast-casual restaurants. They offered excellent cafe food, avoiding most of the cheaper fast-food products that Jack in the Box itself normally proposed.
The design and decor kept the upbeat and nice concept, with customer service similar to a restaurant level. The management of Jack in the Box decided to rebrand its two San Diego restaurants into JBX Grill to test the idea.
There were also JBX restaurants in Bakersfield, California, Boise, Idaho, and Nampa, Idaho. You can still see some JBX elements at the Hillcrest and Pacific Beach restaurants, including an outdoor/indoor fireplace with modern architecture.
However, the idea was subsequently unsuccessful, and in 2006 the final stores were converted back to Jack in the Box.
Key facts about the company
While Jack in the Box is most well-known for its hamburgers, the taco that Jack in the Box sales since the first restaurant of the 1950s is its most famous product. The company sold 554 million tacos produced in 3 factories in Texas and Kansas in the year 2017.
What makes tacos special is that they are frozen for delivery and storage after the meat, and hard taco shells are produced on Tejas and Kansas facilities. Restaurants get them fried and add with salad, cheese, and mild taco sauce before serving. In addition to tacos, Jack in the Box also provides Americanized food from authentic cuisines such as egg rolls, burritos, and poppers.
Three to four months usually pass before new products are rotated. In November 2009, the company stopped production of its iconic ciabatta sandwiches. Bonus Jack hamburger first launched in 1970 and was often re-introduced into Jack’s menus in box menus over the years with the “Jack’s secret sauce”.
In 2012, with the “Marry Bacon” campaign, Jack in the Box launched its bacon milkshakes. Jack in the Box funded Dallas Fuel And Team Envy, an Overwatch League team, and a professional video game-playing team in November 2017.
