History
Sam Meineke founded Meineke in 1971 in Houston, Texas. In 1972, with Harold Nedell, he began to franchise his name. Meineke Discount Mufflers was purchased in 1983 by the international British corporation GKN. The headquarters of the organization moved to North Caroline, Charlotte, in 1986.
Meineke Discount Muffler Stores, Inc. was turned into a privately owned and no longer publicly held business in 2003, the same year.
Driven Brands, Inc. was founded in 2006 and purchased by Econo Lube ‘N Tune Inc, the parent corporation of Meineke Car Care Centers, the Meineke Holding Company. In 2008, Maaco, the Car Qual, and the Drive N Style were acquired.
Meineke Car Care Centers, Inc. announced that it had purchased the vehicle service chain, or “Walt’s” in Seattle-Tacoma in April 2013. Meineke purchased eight sites in the Atlanta region of America in June 2014.
George Foreman was a former boxing champion and spokeswoman of the Meineke brand between 1993 and 2010. Wendel Clark, a former NHL star, is a Meineke Canadian spokeswoman and a new Meineke franchisee.
In the 1994 NASCAR Winston Cup Series for Larry Hedrick, Meineke sponsored Joe Nemechek. Steve Grissom and the Diamond Ridge motorcycle team in 1995 were supported the following year.
