History of the brand Panera Bread

In the year 1987, Linda and Ken Rosenthal gave birth to the St. Louis Bread Company with its first operations in Kirkwood Missouri. Later on, Rosenthals made an investment of $150,000 and got a $150,000 as a loan for Small Business Administration.

In the year 1993, the company was bought by Au Bon Pain Co. with a valuation of $23 million. Then the company changed its name as Au Bon Pain Co. Inc. and later in 1998 they changed they changed the company’s name and gave it the name Panera which was taken from the Spanish word Panera meaning “breadbasket” and “granary”. At the same time, the St. Louis Bread company also renovated its 20 bakery-cafes. In 1999, May, the company was sold to Bruckmann, Rosser, Sherill & Co. at a valuation of $78 million to diversify Panera bread chain.

Much later in the year 2000, the company moved on its headquarters to Richmond Heights, Missouri. Again in the year, 2010 Panera Bread moved its headquarters in Sunset Hills after vacating from Richmond Heights and from Brentwood, Missouri offices.
